Lower difficulty levels use one row of buttons, while higher difficulties may include "chords" that use a combination of buttons from both rows. The frets are represented by a "note highway", three scrolling lanes on-screen, containing either black or white notes representing the two rows. In contrast to the previous five-button design, the Guitar Hero Live controller features six buttons arranged into two rows of three. Guitar Hero Live follows similar gameplay to previous installments in the series, requiring players to use a guitar-shaped controller with buttons and a strum bar to match notes on a scrolling "highway" corresponding to notes played in a song. Gameplay The updated Guitar Hero Live controller uses a 2 × 3 button fret system in contrast to previous games that uses a 1 × 5 button scheme. The GHTV mode was shut down on 1 December 2018, reducing the available Guitar Hero songs from 484 to the 42 present on-disc. The GHTV mode also received mixed reception for its reliance on microtransactions, and the inability to permanently purchase songs to own.ĭue to the game's underwhelming sales and reception, Activision laid off many employees of FreeStyleGames and sold the company to Ubisoft in 2017. The main Live portion of the game received mixed reviews, with criticism towards its weak soundtrack, lack of multiplayer and the live action videos. Guitar Hero Live was released to mostly positive reception, with critics praising the new controller design for providing trickier and more realistic gameplay in comparison to previous Guitar Hero games, as well as the wider variety of content available via the GHTV mode. Although a considerable stepdown from RB3 (and RB2, which I still think was its peak game) It's still a fantastic game and a ton of fun.Guitar Hero Live is a 2015 music rhythm video game developed by FreeStyleGames and published by Activision. Now that they're worth $700+ used, I'm either happy that I have it for myself, or will be happy to pay off my child's college tuition and my second mortgage once they're worth a billion dollars in the year 2030 when I finally get around to using it.Īlso, we play RB4 regularly with the extended family and my younger nephews have a great time with it. Lucked out and have both an unopened unused Xbox 360 Midi adapter and an unopened unused PDP wired legacy adapter that I can use with my Roland TD6 drumkit once I have a larger space.īought it from PDP directly and felt sinful at the time spending 33 dollars ($29.97 plus shipping) to buy myself something that I wasn't sure I was going to use. Have a Legacy Wireless adapter plugged in, that I'll probably never unplug or will hot glue the cable to the port so it doesn't snap off. Have a RB 2 guitar and drumset (plus a wired RB2 bass that sits unused in storage if I ever want to play Beatles RB on the old 360) Transferred all the DLC from previous games, have a RB4 jaguar from when those were going for a fire sale at Gamestop. Happy to have a good, working RB4 set up at my home with the Xbox One S.
